Our Story.

My name's Janey Syrett, I've been a chef for over 20 years. I started as a kitchen hand in the local village pubs in East Sussex. When I was 20 I moved to Hope Cove to train as a sous chef at the newly opened Boathouse restaurant, attached to The Hope & Anchor, where under the guidance and mentorship of Lizzy Alsopp the Head Chef, I learned about seafood, and gained a real passion for fresh sustainable seasonal food.

I carried on

on working in the area until I moved to Bristol with my now Husband (who I met in Hope Cove)! I began working in Bocanova - a Brazilian restaurant. They had just opened a cafe bar in the Paintworks area of Bristol. I worked my way up to Head Chef for 13 years, proud to be part of one of Bristol’s biggest independent establishments, specialising in locally source food and drink.

Me and Jim

decided it was time to move back to Devon. Our friends opened up Oceans Restaurant in Bolberry, a beautiful restaurant set on Bolberry Down with the most stunning views of the sea. Fish and seafood were the speciality with dishes such as Bouillabaise, River Fowey Mussels, Crab Bisque, Salcombe Lobster, Tandorri Crevettes, Japanese Fishcakes & Fish Tacos! I was Head Chef for two years until Lock Down.

During this unprecedented time, I kept busy with baking for our neighbours and Jim's NHS team. As time went by I noticed a real lack of fresh healthy food that was available for takeaway and delivery. One of our passions at Bocabar was our deli counter. Filled daily with fresh wholesome salads, olives, sauces, cakes and pastries, very much inspired by Ottelenghi. And Feast Kitchen Deli boxes were born! We started making our boxes filled with healthy salads, home pickles, local meats and seafood - delivered locally, they became very popular. I could see how the company would grow in to events catering, and felt passionately about the future of the business. I made the difficult decision to leave my job at Oceans and pursue Feast Events.

I'm inspired by where I live, Malborough in the South Hams region of Devon.

We are surrounded by fields and the sea, where we walk for miles, taking in all that nature has to offer. We are so lucky to have the best suppliers - who are passionate about what they produce and how it's produced, all here, just a few miles from where we live. I truly love being able to share that with our friends and customers, who hopefully taste a bit of Devon in our deli boxes.
